Mission & Invitation

Kate Schieber here,
creator of
Book Friends Forever Editing.

And I love stories and storytellers!
Picture

If you have
a story to tell,
you should tell it!
Someone in the world
needs to hear it.

I am passionate about the difference we can make in the world when we tell our stories. Books can act like mirrors and lenses.

When readers recognize themselves and their own experience in your story, they feel seen. A good story can help us realize we are not alone.

Good stories evoke feelings and empathy. We can walk, virtually, in another person’s shoes, which inspires compassion and understanding.

Through stories, we learn, understand, and connect with one another.

Humans are
hardwired to
appreciate good stories.
And book friends
are special people
who understand
the importance
of STORY in our lives.

Books - stories in general - are not only bridges between author and reader, they are bridges that build community.

People bond over good books.
“Book friends” may meet regularly over coffee or on the social media page of a favorite author. They could be any age, any gender. They could have the same or different politics, beliefs, or backgrounds. Book friendships transcend differences.

Fun, supportive communities can form under the media banner of a popular author. But to become popular, one needs to make a connection with readers
’ hearts and minds. If the message is confusing or inconsistent, the text filled with typos, the characters flat, or the plot riddled with holes, that connection will likely not be made, and positive reviews will not be written.

I want my writers
and their stories to
make a difference
in the world!
And to reach a
wide audience,
they need happy readers
and positive reviews.

Whether your goal is to entertain or inspire, success requires work and an honest look at what you've written. Editors and beta readers bring fresh eyes and perspective to the process of polishing your writing to clarify your meaning or to maximize its emotional impact.
I enjoy and appreciate the artistry and honesty of storytelling that makes me feel things, and I offer honest feedback to my author clients, pointing out where the message could be clearer or more engaging for the reader.

This sincere, caring approach works best if author and editor make a connection and establish mutual respect. When that happens, the collaborative creativity and process of editing and polishing are rewarding and satisfying.

What will it take
to reach
your goal
of being published?

If you have a story to tell, you absolutely should tell it.

But you should be aware that, while creating your book is rarely easy, publishing is even harder  and competition is fierce.

Whether you publish independently or traditionally, your book needs to stand out and make an impression.

What kind of
editing help
do you need
to make your dream
a reality?

Writers should find an editor who will work with them to balance out the areas in which they need the most help. I will do my best to customize your editing experience.

Please b
e honest with yourself and your editor about your situation. The better I understand your circumstances and expectations, your publishing goals, writing strengths, and editing weaknesses, the better chance I have of helping you.

With that in mind, I’ve tried to make the cost of my services reasonable by separating as well as packaging them to give you options.

Don’t forget to factor the time for professional editing into your budget, expectations, and publishing plan. Contact me sooner rather than later as I’m often booked out for months.

Your story deserves
a proper launch
into the world.

And your readers
deserve a rich experience
free from distracting
 editing issues.
We want them to

appreciate the
wonderful tale
you have to tell.

My Goals as a Book Friend Editor:

1. to help you polish your manuscript -

Together we will find the right structure and words
while staying true to your voice.

2. to make your message resonate with readers -

Hopefully, it will be just what they need to read
at that moment in their lives.

“Kate was incredibly thorough and her editing skills are impeccable, but she also handles an author's ego with humor and grace. I learned to trust her instincts. She is skilled, insightful, intuitive, and has a keen sense of what makes a book engaging. I feel fortunate as an author to have her by my side.”
