Mission & Invitation

Kate Schieber here, creator of BFF Editing,
and I love stories and storytellers!

Picture

Through stories, we can learn, understand,
and connect with one another.

It's been my experience that books (stories) have a community-building affect. We are hardwired to appreciate good storytelling, and people bond over the experience of discussing books. "Book friends" may meet regularly over coffee, or on the social media page of a favorite author. They could be any age, any gender. They could have the same or different politics, beliefs, or backgrounds.

Book friendships transcend those differences. Book friends understand juggling multiple stories and always needing to have a book handy "just in case." They might be an audiobook addict or sympathize with the struggle to find enough shelf space, or they may have gone digital.

Whatever the case - book friends are special people who understand the importance of STORY in our lives.

I enjoy working with writers who are committed
to quality communication.

Fun, even supportive communities can form under the media banner of a popular author. But to become a popular author, one needs to make a connection with readers' hearts and minds. If the message is confusing or inconsistent, the text filled with typos, the characters flat, or the plot riddled with holes, that connection will not be made. And positive reviews will not happen.
I want my writers and their books to do well and make a difference out in the world, whether that means they entertain or inspire. But that success won't happen without an honest look at what you've written. Editors and beta readers bring fresh eyes and perspective to the process of polishing your writing.

I encourage people to tell their stories! And I don't hesitate to comment when something strikes me as inspiring or funny or clever. But I will also speak plainly and will point out where I think adjustments could make the message clearer or more engaging.

This honest, caring approach works best if author and editor can make a connection and establish mutual respect. When that happens, the collaborative creativity and process of editing and polishing are rewarding and satisfying.

Professional editing is part of the investment
a writer makes in their book.

If you have a story to tell, you should tell it.

But creating something is rarely easy.
The work and sacrifices writers make are an investment in the dream of seeing their story in print and becoming a published author. And that means selling books.

Publishing is a tough business, and competition is fierce. Your book needs to stand out and make a positive impression.

If you are committed to doing what it takes to be a professional writer - an author who sells quality books that engage readers and inspire good reviews - then
hiring a professional editor should be a priority. It's another investment in making your dream a reality.

What will it take to reach your goal of being published?

Be honest with yourself and your editor about your situation. The better I understand your circumstances, publishing goals, writing strengths, and editing weaknesses, the better chance I have of helping you.

Writers should find an editor who will work with them to balance out the areas in which they need the most help.

With that in mind, I've tried to make my services affordable by separating as well as packaging them to give options that can be personalized.

And don't forget to factor the time as well as the cost of professional editing into your budget, expectations, and publishing plan. (I'm often booked out for months.)

Invitation:

So if you'd like to collaborate with a friendly, supportive editor
who will work conscientiously to help you articulate your message
so it resonates with readers,
check out my
Editing Services Overview, then Contact me.

Your story deserves a proper launch into the world.
And your readers deserve a rich experience free from distracting editing issues.

We both want them to appreciate the wonderful tale you have to tell.

My Goals as a Book Friend Editor:

1. to help you polish your manuscript -
Together we will find the right structure and words while staying true to your voice.

2. to make your message resonate with readers -
Hopefully, it will be just what they need to read at that moment in their lives.
